Experience performing animal husbandry using individual ventilated cages (IVC), including monitoring animal’s food, water and bedding conditions.  Experience with mouse colony maintenance, including setting up matings and plug checks. Comfortable handling rodents for routine husbandry and hormonal injections. Understand and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Strictly follow all biosecurity procedures necessary to maintain IVC integrity and animal health status.  Ensure proper record-keeping and report preparation; ensure data entry into database. Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws governing the use of research animals. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed. Ability to maintain detailed records and observations. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skill and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work. Weekends and holidays may be required. Perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases and other applications.  Perform all other related duties as assigned. As business needs dictate, work extended hours to complete daily department goals or tasks to include mandatory overtime.

Education:

High school graduation diploma or General Education Degree (. AALAS certification at the ALAT or above preferred.

Experience:

1 to 2 years related experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy. Thorough knowledge of the handling and care of lab animal species, particularly murine species. Ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
