Job Description:
The Senior Learning Specialist in Student-Athlete Support Services Office (SASSO) provides a supportive learning environment for Ohio State's world class student-athletes who are balancing the rigors of full-time academics with elite athletic training and competition. This position works with students from a variety of sports with diverse backgrounds and a breadth of learning needs.

Academic Support

The Senior Learning Specialist carries a caseload of student-athletes and works collaboratively to develop, implement, and monitor individualized academic support plans. From teaching learning strategies and assisting with tutoring needs to counseling students with professional, academic, and/or personal questions and concerns, this position plays a vital role in ensuring the overall success of student-athletes. It also plays a key role in identifying learning disabilities and coordinating accommodations and services.

Partnerships

Leaning on a strong ability to communicate well with people from diverse backgrounds, the Senior Learning Specialist acts as a resource not only for student-athletes but for staff, tutors, coaches, families, and partner departments across the university.

Compliance and Confidentiality

Compliance and confidentiality are of the utmost importance in this role. The Senior Learning Specialist has the privilege of working in a Power 5 athletic institution and must follow university and Big Ten Conference policies, NCAA guidelines, FERPA guidelines, ADA requirements and handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.

The Senior Learning Specialist typically works in-person on campus during regular business hours. However, a flexible schedule including some evening and weekend work is required.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Four years of relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated teaching expertise, specifically with students from diverse backgrounds and a variety of learning needs.

Familiarity with NCAA Rules, eligibility, academic advising, and Big Ten Conference Rules.
