Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Urban Agriculture Specialist to join our team at Early Learning Centers. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our greenhouse and garden areas, ensuring the health and growth of our crops, and providing educational programs and workshops for our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greenhouse and Garden Management
    • Oversee the daily maintenance and upkeep of the greenhouse and garden areas, including watering, pruning, and fertilizing plants.
    • Monitor and maintain the pH balance and water quality in the hydroponic and aquaponic systems.
    • Ensure the proper growth and development of crops in both systems.
  • Education and Community Engagement
    • Develop and lead educational programs and workshops for children and adults on sustainable gardening practices and urban agriculture.
    • Collaborate with community members to plan and lead Urban Gardener Gathering events.
    • Lead urban garden tours and provide educational insights into urban agriculture.
  • Reporting and Checklist Completion
    • Complete and maintain a daily checklist of tasks to ensure all systems are running smoothly and efficiently.
    • Provide regular reports to supervisors on garden, greenhouse, and aquaponic/hydroponic system performance and growth.
  • Event Support
    • Assist with organizing and facilitating workshops, events, and community outreach related to urban agriculture and food sustainability.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field.
    • At least 2 years of experience in greenhouse and garden management, urban agriculture, or a related field.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong knowledge of horticulture, agriculture, and sustainable gardening practices.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Physical ability to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions

The Urban Agriculture Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and simultaneous supervision of multiple tasks. The position requires the ability to work in outdoor weather conditions, including full sun and high temperatures.

Working Hours

The Urban Agriculture Specialist will work 20 hours per week, year-round, with varying schedules depending on the season. The position requires flexibility to balance personal and organizational needs.
