Job Summary

Reporting to the VP & Chief Nursing Executive, the Executive Director Trauma & Emergency Services will act as a liaison between medical staff, patients, administration, nursing staff, and other divisions. The Executive Director is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient care. Areas of accountability will include the overall operation of Trauma & Emergency Services that includes the planning, implementation, and operation of the department to meet the needs of the organization; this includes human resources management, financial management, and quality management for departments and programs. He/she will have 24-hour accountability for Trauma & Emergency Services. Assists in the advancement of the professional practice environment by collaborating in the setting the NGHS nursing strategic direction and focusing on activities that support the nursing strategic direction. Provides nursing executive support for VOICE and the NDNQI quality teams including mentoring and coaching team members in their professional participation. Assists with overall clinical governance and other projects as assigned.
 

Minimum Job Qualifications

Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. National certification in either a clinical or leadership specialty within two (2) years of hire.

Educational Requirements: Masters Degree. A degree in Nursing (either BSN or MSN) and a Masters Degree, either in Nursing or other if possessing a BSN.

Minimum Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years experience in practice of professional nursing. A minimum of seven (7) years of Emergency Services leadership experience with at least two (2) years of Emergency Services management experience. 

Other: Professional organization membership within one (1) month of hire into the role. Officer in local, state and/or national professional organization.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Establishes and coordinates trauma & emergency department policies and systems.

Maintains all policies and systems in compliance with all regulatory standards including DNV.

Facilitates and oversees operation of the unit by adapting to unusual circumstances or events.

Assures the performance improvement program is in compliance with organization systems.

Communicates with staff to elicit input for formulation or revision of policies and procedures.

Assumes responsibility for achieving financial objectives.

Prepares the annual budget utilizing workload statistics and projected census.

Identifies and schedules expenditures.

Analyzes variances by operating the department within the approved budget as indicated by statistical reports within a plus or minus 3% variance.

Assures quality of care is delivered in efficient approach.

Develops and interprets hospital and nursing division philosophies and standards of care.

Enforces adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act and other governing agency regulations.

Measures orientation program is adequate and makes revisions as appropriate.

Assures skills equipment checklist and written lesson plans are current.

Measures health outcomes against standards.

Enforces adherence to infection control policies and procedures.

Accepts responsibility for improving throughput.

Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

Ensures responsibility for developing and meeting annual goals and objectives for the department.

Develops goals and objectives for department within allotted time frame.

Efficiently implements at least 85% of goals and objectives as determined annually.

Directs the management and development of health care team to assure organization consistencies.

Responsible for departmental personnel action decisions in the areas of employment, selection, promotion, demotion and termination.

Coordinates activities with various hospital departments, physicians, patients and the public.

Completes employee reports and records according to established time frame: Employee evaluations. Disciplinary actions. Payroll records.

Approves work schedules and assignments to maintains departmental coverage at all times.

Councils employees and/or makes appointments for EPA interviews.

Participates in team problem solving methods.

Maintains documentation to ensure fairness of assigned personnel such as in-services, audits, counseling and absenteeism.

Maintains high visibility with community, outside agencies, and physicians to promote community involvement.

Participates in relationship with community agencies as appropriate.

Participates in community educational health programs by scheduling and/or teaching.

Participates in disaster and regional planning.

Establishes effective communications and coordinates long range plans with emergency department physician.

Monitors and responds to all patient complaints in a timely manner.

Monitors and responds to physician requests in a timely manner.

Responsible for maintaining continued professional growth and development.

Assumes responsibility for sharing knowledge with co-workers by conducting in-services with the department and/or hospital wide at least three times per year.

Establishes professional networks.

Reviews professional publications.

Analyzes Trauma Registry data and utilizes it to support improvements in the trauma program.

Ensures NGHS remains compliant with all ACS-COT and State trauma center regulations necessary to maintain designation, including overseeing all re-designation site surveys.

Assist trauma and emergency operational leadership with the identification of educational needs.
