Position Duties/Responsibilities

The Instructor is responsible for functions related to teaching 15 hours of coursework, advising, and supporting various college initiatives. Faculty responsibilities include leading one departmental or college initiative and assisting with others as requested. College and Departmental Initiatives currently include Call Me Mister, Ed Rising, Invest Summer Enrichment Camp, Boots on the Ground Community Service Team, Grant Writing, Site Coordinator Lead, Invest Adventure Club, Unlock Education Regional Conference, Impact on Education Regional Conference. Additionally, the assistant professor will perform the responsibilities of a site coordinator which includes the following roles: the liaison between the university and school district, participate in mentor teacher trainings and stakeholder meetings, and coaching of teacher candidates and residents.

The Instructor will work closely with 

Faculty members who teach early childhood, elementary, and special education content to create course curriculum that has continuity and scaffolding for candidates, Burton College of Education Accreditation Specialist, on major assessment data collection and analysis requirements for national accreditation and state reporting. Team Lead for Site Coordinators, to be trained as a site coordinator. Site coordinators serve three major roles. They serve as the liaison between the university and school district, participate in mentor teacher trainings and stakeholder meetings, and coaching of teacher candidates and residents.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

Earned a master’s degree or higher in education at the time of appointment. Valid Teaching License with certification in an early childhood or elementary content area Valid Teaching License with certification in early intervention or mild/moderate grades 1-5 Credentialed to teach special education coursework(18 graduate hours of special education coursework) 3-to-5 years of elementary or early childhood classroom teaching experience with experience with inclusion, resource, or the equivalent Knowledge of and experience with Common Core State Standards or equivalent Experience working with high-quality curriculum Evidence of application of technology in the classroom Experience working with high needs students and/or traditionally underserved populations of students and/or students with special needs Experience with developing high-quality teachers/teacher candidates Mentor Teacher Certified or willing to complete Mentor Teacher certification within first year employed. This certification is required to fulfill the site coordinator portion of the job description.

Evidence of knowledge and implementation of Co-teaching, Providing Quality Verbal and Written Academic Feedback, and effective coaching practices Evidence in supporting teachers/teacher candidates with implementing high-quality curriculum Evidence of leadership in professional development Experience with data-driven instructional decision making University teaching experience Knowledge of standard requirements: Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC), Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching (LCET), Louisiana Teacher Preparation Competencies, and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Standards, High Leverage Practices (HLP) Evidence of collaboration with stakeholders, such as students, teachers, districts/parishes.
