We seek an organized, highly motivated, full-time lab technician, with a background in biomechanics to join the Motion Analysis Laboratory (MAL) research program in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Harvard Medical School at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. The MAL is focused on applying motion analysis techniques to assess motor abilities in patients with impairments due to conditions such as cerebral palsy, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. The lab technician will work closely with the MAL core team, which includes engineers, research therapists, and physiatrists. As a particular focus, the lab technician will use motion analysis equipment, including but not limited to, the use of motion sensors, video cameras, force plates and surface electromyography (EMG) to assess human movement in research participants.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Prepares lab for data collections

· Plans, designs and performs statistical analyses

· Designs, implements and applies biomechanical models for the analysis of human movement

· Maintains research data, patient files, regulatory binders and study databases

· Designs research protocols in conjunction with PI

· Develops systems for QA/QC

· Files adverse events with IRB

· Recommends protocol changes and may assist with writing protocols and manuscripts

· Monitors and evaluates lab and procedure data

· Administers/scores/evaluates study questionnaires

· Assists PI to prepare complete study reports

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

· May train, orient, educate and address the competency of staff, interns, and volunteers

· Allocates work and coordinates staffing scheduling

· In absence of manager, may assume responsibilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

Education/Degree

Required

· Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree

Preferred

· MA/MS/MPH in a scientific field, related to the lab’s aims and methods of investigation.


Experience

Required

· Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience.

Preferred

· Significant experience with the analysis of biomechanical data.

Required Skills 

· Ability to design and implement biomechanical models for the analysis of human motion

· Ability to manage equipment used to collect biomechanical data

· Ability to design, prepare, deliver and evaluate research programs

· High level time management and organization skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Sound interpersonal skills

· Ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study
