Full -Time 7A-7P and 7P-7A
Neurosciences is a 29 bed unit located on the 3rd floor of the South Tower at OU Health. Of the 29 beds, 9 beds are step down/progressive care and 20 are floor beds. We provide the highest level of Neurological care as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, as designated by The Joint Commission. Our team, led by new leadership has transformed our collaborative care delivery model. This new approach at patient centered care has led to increased employee satisfaction and has improved patient outcomes. We partner with Neurology Faculty to provide continual education that supports professional development and ultimately excellent patient care.
tGeneral Description:
Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.
Essential Responsibilities:
Will assist with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients. Provide care according to an established nursing plan. Observe changes in patient’s condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur. Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Will initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol. Will suction and clean tracheotomy sites. May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal and topical medications. Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations. An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.General Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
Experience: None required. One or more years of experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, coordinate, plan and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients. Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
