The Operations Manager is accountable for overseeing all Florida, California, and Tortola based warehouse and distribution functions including those managed and supported by third party logistics providers. This role develops implementation plans and directs all warehouse and distribution activities ensuring that performance targets are achieved and priorities are fully aligned with Cost.U.Less and RTW strategies.

Key Accountabilities:

Provide supervision and overall leadership to the Depots Ensure that the depots are operating in a safe, store centric, cost effective and efficient manner. Monitor compliance with Federal, State, Territory, and local regulations that impact our daily business operations. Ensure assets are protected through the effective use of repair and maintenance practices and programs Ensure that the Depots are adhering to HAZMAT requirements Ensure that inventory is managed to provide for optimum selling condition at stores, and that shrink is effectively controlled through management processes that address loss of product by damage, deterioration, mishandling, code dating, and other possible causes Follow-up with Depots confirming that all discrepancies in inventory are processed appropriately and in a timely manner Ensure that inventories are taken on a regular basis providing minimal adjustments Utilize performance metrics that steer the operation for maximum effectiveness Continuously review and analyze processes, looking for improvement opportunities; communicate and implement (as appropriate) new processes Monitor all expense lines, providing guidance on how to continually drive costs down. Maintain an active file on each Depot with information on goals and objectives, and the progress at accomplishing those goals and objectives. Develop, communicate, and implement effective annual operational plans that are aligned with the strategic direction as provided by the NWCI President and Director of Logistics & Distribution Contribute to the development of the region’s operating plan and capital budget. Participate in the development of the region’s annual sales plan and operating budget. Communicate plans to Depots Achieve the performance targets set out in these plans Report on any variances to plan as shown on monthly financial statements Provide effective communication to Depots and corporate office Coordinate those activities which require inter-departmental input with the appropriate person or department, such as maintenance, advertising, human resources Identify breakdowns and gaps in communication within Depots and between Depots and NWCI office as they arise and act as a positive force to resolve them Communicate inventory levels and product flow opportunities to category managers for each Depot location assuring effective inventory movements through the supply chain. After traveling to the Depots, communicate to Director of Logistics & Distribution observed problem areas and improvement plans. Submit a report for the Weekly Information Meeting (WIM) detailing KPI performance Provide operational training to managers, new managers, and trainees. Develop a management bench that will support personnel development, hedge against management turnover, and support a “promote from within” process. Develop Best Practices, Policies, and Procedures to be implemented chain wide.
Desired Skills & Experience: Mandatory 5 years previous grocery and general warehouse management experience Minimum 5 years of experience in managing subordinates Must be proficient with exporting rules mandated by Customs and Boarder Protection Must be proficient with different types of containers used in ocean shipping and cube/weight capacity Strong oral and written communication skills Intermediate knowledge of MS Office High level of accuracy and attention to detail Must be able to operate hand-trucks, pallet jacks, standard safety equipment, and office equipment. Ability to operate a forklift an asset Must be able to communicate clearly with all levels of company personnel Experience with managing depot/warehouse financial statements (operating statements/P&L statements) Ability to travel internationally Experience building an increasingly capable team Previous grocery and general warehouse management experience, a focus on export would be preferred Experience managing multiple facilities simultaneously Experience with managing depot functions while operating with third party logistics personnel/facilities
Working Conditions: Indoors under regular warehouse conditions Ability to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time Ability to stand working on cement floor extended periods of time Ability to work in temperatures ranging from 90 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer to -20 degrees Fahrenheit Fast paced environment Ability to work with a variety of fellow team members both in person and via phone and email Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis Must be able to work in a loud environment Must be able to task and manage direct and indirect employees working across multiple facilities Must be able to obtain port permits allowing continuous access to the depot facilities Must be willing and able to travel regularly to all Depots
