Communications Intern (part-time)

Wage: $12.00 per hour, 10-20 hours/week

This is a temporary role that will last until December 2024 with an option to continue as an intern for the next semester.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Communications intern position assists the city with communication efforts under the Community Relations & Public Information Office division within the Economic Development Department. The position provides additional support with social media, websites, newsletters, video production, graphic design, etc.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Community Relations & Public Information Officer and/or the Economic Development Director.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND PRIORITIES:

  • Utilizes Adobe InDesign to create a monthly newsletter for city-wide distribution.
  • Curates a list of city-related topics from all departments for the monthly newsletter.
  • Creates engaging social media content across multiple platforms to promote and inform about city activities and information.
  • Utilizes programs like Constant Contact and Canva to share information.
  • Helps maintain city branding and voice across social media, website, newsletters, and marketing material.
  • Develops and produces videos and other marketing materials for various departments.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AS A COMMUNICATIONS INTERN:

Knowledge of: Adobe Design suite, Canva, Microsoft Office 365, Constant Contact

Skills in: Writing, video production, graphic design, and social media management

Ability to Work well with others, be self-motivated, and work on a variety of written, digital, and video platforms.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Communications, Marketing, Public Relations
