Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s Degree in healthcare or business related field/discipline (i.e. Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business) from an accredited college/university, required.

Bachelor's of Nursing, or other clinical related degree required (ie. Pharmacy, Lab, Social Work, etc.).

Licenses/Certifications: 

Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) required.

Healthcare Accreditation Certification Program (HACP), Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) and/or Certified Patient Safety Officer (CPSO) certification preferred.

Lean Six Sigma or Project Management Professional certification preferred.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Ten (10) years' experience in a healthcare setting, five (5) of which are in hospital or acute hospital health system required

Five (5) years' leadership experience required

Five (5) years' experience in patient safety programs required.

Three (3) years' experience in robust process improvement methodologies preferred.

Three (3) years' experience in statistical analysis or quantitative analysis preferred.

Experience in Regulatory Compliance activities (TJC, CMS, and TDSHS) preferred.

Self-motivated, proven communication skills, ability to manage up

Background in business planning and targeted outcomes

Knowledge in event reporting systems, platform enhancement, and data analysis optimization

Demonstrated effective working relationships with Executives, Physicians, Directors, and staff

Ability to serve as liaison to external regulatory and sanctioned reporting agencies to maintain, correct, and facilitate nationwide public reporting of patient safety standards and data

Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills and ability to present information internally and externally related to patient safety trends, corrective actions, and changes to national and local trends

Knowledge of evidence-based practice guidelines for clinical care and patient safety

Ability to work collaboratively with Healthcare professionals at all levels to achieve established goals and improve quality outcomes

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Executes, integrates, and implements all components of the enterprise-wide patient safety programs.

Identifies patient safety improvement opportunities based on evidence based clinical practices and statistical analysis of current practice patterns.

Oversees and manages patient safety data collection, aggregation, and dissemination across the enterprise, specific to patient safety.

Establishes and monitors patient safety measures in conjunction with hospital leadership and regional and hospital directors of quality across the enterprise.

Leads, manages and promotes a culture of patient safety and implementation of high reliability practices across the enterprise.

Designs, develops and implements patient safety alerts, prompts and tools across the organization.

Guides and supports regional and local directors in their daily patient safety operations and develops and implements systems for optimal knowledge transfer and efficiency across the enterprise.

Refines and improves enterprise-wide processes to meet the anticipated needs and requirements. 

Precepts, plans and directs short term and long-term patient safety robust process improvement projects to continuously improve the patient safety program across the enterprise.

Directs and promotes communication and collaboration between all stakeholders in patient safety strategies.

Provides oversight in the use of data to drive decisions, to plan, to develop, and implement patient safety improvement strategies.

Establishes, in conjunction with leadership, regional and hospital quality directors, the education of physicians, managers, and staff, on patient safety principles.

Directs and manages the day-to-day enterprise patient safety operational budget.

Assures that revenue, expenses, contribution margin and FTEs meet or exceed budget; prepares and submits budget and related reports; forecasts and accurately projects expenses; takes corrective action to address negative variances; identifies and proposes capital budget items appropriately.

Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
