CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must have High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test. Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position. Must pass a basic skills test. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Must be able to assist with catheterization and tube feeding of student. Required academic skills to assist students (, language arts, math, reading and social studies). Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email. Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.QUALIFICATIONS PRFERRED
Recent experience working at the elementary school level with students with academic and special needs. Ability to relate effectively with children. Cope with unpredictability; be flexible, diplomatic and cooperative. Demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and positive attitude toward working with elementary education students. Maintain composure in difficult situations. Value the confidential nature of sensitive student’s information. Able to work independently and carry out assigned tasks. Able to operate computer and other equipment as necessary. Effectively communicates and develops relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community. Strong interpersonal skills necessary to work with small instructional student groups, one on one, and in a student assessment environment. Able and willing to work in team setting and different instruction as guided. Able to relate effectively with students who have a variety of needs and challenges and backgrounds. Willingness to attend building and district instructional trainings, protocols and procedures. Willing to follow all district policies and procedures, especially in the area of instruction and assessment. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic. Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist nurse with health needs of student, including catheterization and tube feeding. Assist students with their educational needs, including assisting students in the regular classroom in reading and others areas as needed. Instruct students as directed by the certificated staff. Administer reading assessments. Prepare instructional materials as requested. Participate in staff and program in-services. Maintain records as necessary. Carry out plans and activities for students as designed by the reading specialist and classroom teacher. Work cooperatively with parents, staff and students. Provide clerical assistance as needed. Assist in providing supervision of students in order to provide a safe, orderly, positive learning environment. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
