Scada/PLC PROCESS CONTROL SPECIALIST - Newport News (Onsite)

 

This position is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance and support of PC’s, laptops, related peripherals, and software for plant personnel and assisting with network tasks as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Oversees the water treatment plant’s information systems to include installation, configuration, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of programmable logic controllers, remote telemetry units, and other related equipment. Monitors Active Directory domain controls, Structured Query Language (SQL) server, open Virtual Memory System (VMS) servers, workstations, and desktop personal computers.
Oversees the department’s communication systems to include planning, designing, contracting, implementing, and installing major voice communication projects and data communication infrastructure. Researches, develops and implements strategic initiatives to ensure continuous improvement with the department’s systems. Serves as primary liaison with software vendors, consultants, engineers, instrumentation personnel, customers, and city employees to coordinate activities affecting the process control system. Performs other duties as assigned.


 

 

 

 



Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE ·

Technology – Thorough knowledge of programmable logic controllers, analog instrumentation, quality control analyzers and remote telemetry units. Knowledge of client/server environments, Open VMS, Windows operating systems and word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of high speed local and wide area networking, including frame relay, fiber optics, and gigabit Ethernet. Knowledge of voice and data communications systems. 


REQUIRED ABILITIES ·

Coordination of Work – Ability to establish and implement effective programs and procedures. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology. Attends and maintains a calendar for meetings, deadlines and events. Performs a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others. ·

 Communication – Excellent ability to communicate complex ideas effectively so others will understand. Excellent ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Information Science, Computer Network Engineering, or a related field with 5-7 years of related experience to include industrial controls including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Local/Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN).

Experience Required: 3 or more years of business development experience selling to senior business and IT stakeholders Experience Required: Demonstrated achievement in sales in the IT industry. Proven successful experience selling cloud, service desk, network operations services, information technology solutions and/or other recurring revenue. Proven, successful experience selling project based, professional services with an information technology focus Strong understanding of how enterprises and business functions utilize services offerings from vendors to drive improved efficiency, financial results and employee engagement Demonstrated ability to handle objections and drive best new practice ideas to impact their business Understanding of client’s needs and IT pain points and the ability to translate them into sales opportunities that create true business value Inherent ability to influence others regarding complex topics – hunter mentality and self-starter Socially comfortable speaking with strangers across a broad range of business and information technology topics The ability to handle pressure, meet deadlines, and be accountable for results Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation of group presentations Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
