Job Description

SUMMARY: The Director of Operational Risk Management will be responsible for overseeing and managing the BankUnited's operational risk framework. This role involves identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating operational risks across the organization. The Director will work closely with various departments and business lines to ensure that operational risk management practices are integrated into all business processes and that the bank remains compliant with regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned. Develop and implement the bank's operational risk management framework, policies, and procedures. Identify and assess operational risks across all business units, such as commercial and consumer banking, and all support units, such as Treasury Solutions and Banking Operations. Monitor and report on key risk indicators (KRI's) and operational risk events. Conduct risk assessments and scenario analysis to evaluate potential impacts on the bank's operations and to provide effective challenge under the Three Lines of Defense model. Lead the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process, ensuring that all units identify and assess their key risks and controls. Collaborate with business units to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Provide training and guidance to staff on operational risk management practices and the RCSA process. Prepare and present risk reports to senior management and the board of directors. Lead and manage the operational risk management team. Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering ( Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.). Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training. Identifies and reports suspicious activity. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises function, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance coaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree Finance, business administration, risk management, or a related field preferred Master's Degree(or professional certification, eg, FRM, PRM, CRISC, CRMP) is preferred.
EXPERIENCE Minimum of 10 years of experience in operational risk management within the banking or financial services industry is preferred. Experience leading and managing the RCSA process is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to operational risk management Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization Proven leadership and team management abilities
