Free Library servicesJOB SUMMARYThis position is responsible for the instruction of course specific material within the School of Humanities, Music Department at San Juan College.
MAJOR DUTIES

  • Will provide 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with a primary teaching load in music courses. Classes within the program include, but are not limited to Music History, Music Appreciation, Vocal Ensemble, Sight Singing and Dictation, Class Voice, Choral Conducting, and Music in the Regular Elementary Classroom.
  • Responsibilities include assessment, service on various college and department committees, maintenance of office hours, and other duties as assigned by the Dean.
  • Development of program specific curriculum, course guide, syllabi, and other materials related to the program.
  • Conduct vocal ensembles including Choir, and an assortment of vocal ensembles, often in collaboration with the instrumental coordinator.
  • Supervise vocal and choral adjunct teachers.
  • Maintain music department library and equipment.
  • Dual Credit instruction as part of possible teaching assignment.
  • Student Recruitment.
  • Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of curriculum development principles.
  • Knowledge of current trends in higher education.
  • Knowledge and skill in scheduling, planning and conducting musical events.
  • Knowledge and skill in staff management and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of computer programs and databases related to educational application.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Music, 18 graduate hours emphasis in Vocal Choral.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the objectives and functions of the Music Program in order to instruct students, usually interpreted to require two to three years of related experience. Experience must include leading choirs and smaller ensembles, teaching students from beginning to advanced vocal abilities, and collaborating with instrumental ensembles of various types.
  • Dual Credit Instruction a plus.
