Rutgers The State University is seeking a Mental Health Specialist II (Spanish Speaking) in the Outpatient of Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare.

The Mental Health Specialist II performs functions in support of the Unit’s mission providing person centered, culturally competent, and “consumer friendly” services to individuals who contact the Call Center. Receives requests for service, undertakes review of the service need of the caller or consumer, and responds by offering support and appropriate referrals and disposition.

Among the key duties of this position are the following: As part of the Call Center team, interacts with the supervisor regarding duties and assignments for each shift. Provides assistance to Mental Health Specialists III, as needed, and under the direction of the supervisor. Develops a schedule for follow up calls. Provides “customer friendly” services, taking initiative in engaging individuals served in an empathic and concerned manner. Promptly responds to all service requests. Responds to referrals, inquiries, and other contacts with professionals, outside agencies, and other parties in a professional and cordial manner. Takes the initiative to identify the needs of the individual served, using language and tone which communicates respect for the individual. Responds with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues of individuals served. Models for the individuals served good communication skills, living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies. Assists the individuals served in identifying their personal goals, in setting objectives for each goal, and determining interventions to be used based on the consumer’s life goals. For details, please go to Seniority Unit Terms of Appointment Staff - 12 month Position Pension Eligibility PERS Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Four (4) years of full-time experience in the mental health field or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant mental or social health care field. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree. Certifications/Licenses Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrates ability to use a computer to record services and other basic office functions. Demonstrates ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Fluency in Spanish required. Preferred Qualifications Previous training and/or experience working with substance use disorders preferred.
