JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Financial Officer for the College of Health and Human Development (HHD) will provide leadership in management of financial and budget execution matters for the organization. This position reports to the Director of Financial Officers but will work closely with the Dean of the college.

The primary duty is to maintain sound financial operations across multiple fund types through internal controls and financial and budgetary stewardship while providing service to the dean in meeting the unit’s vision and goals through strategic analysis, process improvement and policy/procedural development. Duties include regular financial analysis and reporting management of all funds, including general allocations, revenues, and restricted funds management. The position has oversight of all aspects of financial stewardship, budget execution, policy and procedure interpretation, guidance, and compliance. Responsibilities for this position also include management of financial systems related approvals, monitoring budgets to ensure planned resources are available and coordination of internal audits and risk assessments. This position will also serve as the liaison to central University offices in the areas of budget, finance, payroll, risk management, purchasing and others as needed. The successful candidate will also supervise, evaluate and train assigned staff.

Candidates should demonstrate advanced Excel skills and knowledge in financial and budget management, analysis, forecasting and financial reporting and guidance on developing unit strategy. The successful candidate will evaluate strategic initiatives through financial modeling. Additional duties include development, implementation, monitoring, and control of operating budgets, forecasts for various expense and income projections, advising and training for affected staff, and consultation about fiscal affairs with other senior leaders within the unit.

Experience with enterprise systems technologies and products such as SAP S/4HANA, Concur, Workday, Oracle BI, and MS Office is desirable. This position requires a high degree of self-direction, including the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines at short notice, strong leadership skills, the ability to lead and manage teams, and a strong commitment to inclusionary practices which support diversity throughout the University. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are required. The ability to persuade and influence a variety of people to achieve results is needed for this role. Also needed is the ability to manage complex problems crossing multiple functional areas, ranging from policy/procedural issues, risk/legal matters, confidentiality, and negotiations is essential.

This position currently will support HHD, however this assignment may change in the future. Questions about the assignment should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

This position minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree plus ten years of relevant experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with research administration is preferred. Due to the financial or fiduciary responsibilities for his position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to a standard background check.
