Job Overview

The Director of Operations is responsible for the daily supervision, development, and coaching of operations staff. This includes direct management of supervisory staff in the areas of operator training, safety, reservations, dispatch, fleet and facility maintenance. The Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring that day-to-day operations meet strategic and operational goals ensuring that Jaunt has effective, efficient, and safe transportation management.


Job Responsibilities

· Consistently model Jaunt's organizational values.

· Drive performance by creating a culture of excellence; sets clear and challenging operational goals for each division.

· Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

· Represent Jaunt to federal agencies, local groups and organizations, professional associations, and other similar groups.

· Responsible for interpreting, and staying current on, the DOT and FTA regulations to ensure on-going compliance.

· Ensures seamless interface between all areas of operations. Communicates solutions, successes, best practices, and opportunities within the organization.

· Partners with the Chief of People and Operations for recruitment, staffing, and succession planning efforts for each department; maintain adequate staffing as budgeted

· Enforces policies and procedures related to service operations, communicates policies and procedures to all operations personnel, and administers policies and procedures consistently and effectively.

· Work closely with senior staff on policy changes.

· Oversee Operations team leaders to ensure that operator supervision is carried out equitably and consistently ensuring staff and passenger safety is maximized.

· Ensures that team members acquire the appropriate support, tools, and training to apply skills and knowledge to the job.

· The Director of Operations will establish and monitor performance measures for each department and prepare weekly and monthly performance reports.

· Serves as an escalation point for resolution of issues regarding service issues with key stakeholders.

· Coordinate with Senior Manager of Fleet and Facilities on the scheduling of critical vehicle maintenance needs for safety reasons/defects

· Lead special projects as needed.

· This position is considered Safety Sensitive based on FTA regulation: Prevention of Alcohol Misuse and Prohibited Drug Use in Transit Operations, 49 CFR Part 655.

· Be present and provide knowledge and guidance during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations.

· This position allows the employee to perform some, but not all, of their work functions from an alternate work location. This employee is expected to balance telework and onsite requirements.


Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

· Relevant experience in the areas of transit operations

· Experience with supervision of individuals and teams

· Demonstrated leadership ability assessing, mentoring, and motivating others

· Demonstrated track record of building teams and exceeding stated service objectives

· Ability to plan well and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, public and private sector officials, and citizen groups.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Excellent customer service skills

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and aptitude for learning new software applications

· Must possess a valid VA driver's license and have an excellent driving record.

· Ability to keep abreast of developments in the field.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Ability to evaluate programs against pertinent standards.

· Ability to plan and conduct staff development programs.

· Knowledge of governing laws and processes.

· English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

· Prefer CDL license with passenger endorsement

· Prefer bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.


Special Requirements:

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing and passing a pre-employment drug screen. Employment is contingent on a driving record that allows the employee to be covered by Jaunt's insurance. Continued employment depends on adherence to Jaunt's Substance Abuse Policy, including being subject to drug and alcohol screening, and maintaining a clean driving record.
