Responsibilities

The Public Health Specialist III will provide programmatic support within the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Prevention (OMH-HDP) as follows: contribute toward activities that improve understanding of the underlying causes of health disparities among rural populations, increase engagement with impacted communities, and raise awareness of and seek to address such disparities. Responsibilities include: stay abreast of developments in research, policy, and local communities that impact healthcare access and delivery for rural populations; coordinate with, participate in, and/or serve as a point of contact for individuals and groups engaged in efforts to address health disparities related thereto; maintain, develop, and expand relationships with stakeholders; conduct listening sessions with impacted communities; make presentations, provide technical assistance and/or trainings to internal and external stakeholders; provide data and other information, including draft language, for inclusion on the OMH-HDP website or other forums in connection activities or events connected to rural health; and develop and support the implementation of strategies to improve the delivery of unbiased, culturally and linguistically competent care. Other appropriate related duties as assigned.

COVID-19 highlighted long-standing inequities that have systematically undermined the physical, social, economic, and emotional health of marginalized populations, including racial and ethnic minority populations, people living with disabilities, older adults, rural residents, and lower-income communities. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Statistics or related field and two years of relevant experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization; OR an Associate’s degree and four years of such experience; OR six years of related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field. Demonstrated experience working with marginalized communities, including rural communities. Familiarity with and/or demonstrated experience addressing health inequities. Demonstrated experience in community outreach and engagement. Demonstrated experience preparing and providing presentations to and for diverse audiences. Strong leadership and writing skills. Proficiency using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Zoom, Webex, and Microsoft Teams.
