29-24 Extension Program Coordinator, Horticulture Volunteer and Outreach, Jefferson County

The Extension Program Coordinator, Horticulture Volunteer and Outreach, Jefferson County will oversee the coordination of all aspects for the Colorado Master Gardener (CMG) program and the administrative assistance and volunteer coordination for Native Plant Master (NPM) program in Jefferson County. We are seeking a passionate and skilled coordinator who has experience in managing volunteer teams, and a willingness to learn the CMG and NPM program administration, programming and outreach needs. Primary duties include volunteer recruitment, retention, training and coordination; volunteer tracking; support for CMG and NPM activities that engage the public; ongoing recognition; documentation of program accomplishments; administrative support of CMG and NPM; and program reporting. Horticulture and Natural Resources teammates are expected to work in strong collaboration together on budgeting, program management, and systems designed to meet the needs of Jefferson County volunteers and community. This position works closely with a team of volunteers and identifies Jeffco community training needs and interests, selects programs, markets, and coordinates non-credit educational programming to youth and adult audiences using a variety of delivery methods. The individual in this position works as a member of the local county Extension team and as a local representative of Colorado State University. This individual works under the supervision of the Extension Director for Jefferson County, and under the leadership of the Horticulture and Natural Resource Specialists, both of whom work in strong collaboration with this position and programs it serves.
This position is a front-facing position who will work closely with many volunteers, colleagues, and partners; the position will primarily work on-site at the office in Golden, some hybrid hours and flexibility in schedules are possible. Required Job Qualifications Completed bachelors degree. Experience in volunteer management or closely related field. Completion of Colorado Master Gardener and Native Plant Master training or willingness to obtain training. Essential Duties Job Duty Category Volunteer Recruitment, Development, and Management Duty/Responsibility Maintain, strengthen, and grow the County CMG and NPM program through coordinating the following activities recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training, deploying, and recognizing volunteers; establishing project teams and coordinating volunteer project managers, tracking hours, monitoring, and redirecting project implementation as needed. Align processes within CMG and NPM programs that enhance the volunteer experience and meeting of shared goals such as volunteer management systems, outreach, and resource sharing. Help the public gain answers to horticultural and program related questions through CMG and NPM volunteers. Instill quality customer service skills and diagnostic protocols in volunteers. Provide guidance and support for volunteers and volunteer projects in the community. Educate, manage, and support volunteers in use of a volunteer database that includes electronic scheduling and tracking, maintain email contact lists and databases, and create summary reports. Organize continuing education opportunities for Extension volunteers. Percentage Of Time 65% Job Duty Category Program Planning, Development, Delivery, Evaluation, and Reporting Duty/Responsibility Coordination of all aspects for the Colorado Master Gardener (CMG) program. Administrative assistance and volunteer coordination for Native Plant Master (NPM) program in Jefferson County including marketing, course input, course prep, and volunteer recruitment and retention. Responsible for data collection and reporting for relevant program areas. Create a monthly newsletter alongside CMG volunteers. Collect and reports data, stories, pictures, and marketing to include in various CSU, Jeffco and Open Space publications, websites, social media, etc. Based on community needs, assist in developing, delivering, and evaluating research based educational programming and information to the public using a variety of educational venues. Provide customer service to volunteers and community. Develop and promote culturally appropriate programming that is inclusive of youth and adult audiences that are diverse and/or underserved. Actively participate in, develop a plan to invest and regularly report program activities and outcomes to the appropriate Program Reporting Units and other Extension program and reporting teams as appropriate to help focus, develop and implement local, area and regional program efforts. Participate in Colorado Master Gardener, Master Naturalist and/or Native Plant Master program leadership teams; and attend statewide volunteer coordination meetings. Follow state program guidelines. Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate or required by the position. Assist with updating and maintaining all website and social media platforms with relevant program related content and information. Experience building marketing materials to educate, recruit and inform broad audiences. Completion of the CMG training required of volunteers is required in the first year of hire.
