Responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating care for various patients within the facility. Reports directly to the Clinical Director of the unit. This position works in conjunction with other members of nursing service, ancillary services, physicians, patients, and families. It collaborates with various members of the healthcare team to ensure quality of care across the continuum. Requires the ability to be self-directed and quality focused. Interpersonal communication skills are a necessary function of this position.

Hours of Position:

Full-time, night shift (7p-7a)

$20k sign-on bonus for eligible candidates (current employees and candidates who have worked at Vanderbilt within the last year are not eligible.)

Vanderbilt Wilson County Emergency Department, also known as VWCH ED is located on the First floor at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. This is a 19 bed unit and the typical Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4.

The environment on our unit is fast-paced and unpredictable based on the ever-changing needs of the patient population we serve. 

VWCH Emergency Department is a Certified Level 3 Trauma Center. We provide 24-hour care for adult and pediatric patients who are being treated for all levels of injury and illness, from beginning to end of life. Our patients are unique because they are a diverse population, with a multitude of concerns that require both emergent and non-emergent care in a complete and timely manner.

Our highly skilled nurses are successful because they have the passion, support, training, and critical thinking skills that are essential in providing expert care. 

We orient new staff by providing individualized orientation with a trained preceptor, based on the unique needs of the staff member. Additionally, our unit takes part in the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient's primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
• Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Competently handles multiple assignments often simultaneously by prioritizing work into manageable and measurable units. Ability to adapt to changes to patient care and area needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Follows up to assure problems and issues are resolved.
• Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully search for evidence to answer clinical questions. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
