Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) seek to recruit an internationally recognized physician leader to serve as Chief for the Division of Medical Genetics .
CHLA’s Division of Medical Genetics has been providing children with complex genetic diseases state-of-the art clinical, diagnostic, treatment, and laboratory services based on the most recent scientific advances for over six decades. CHLA is currently ranked #7 in the U.S. and #1 on the West Coast on the esteemed U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll for 3-4.
The Division Chief reports to Alan S. Wayne, MD, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, Keck School of Medicine of USC (Keck SOM) and works closely with the other Division Chiefs. The position includes an academic appointment with Keck SOM at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience. Applicants are required to have an MD or MD/PhD or comparable degree as well as outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research. They must also be board-certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics in Clinical Genetics.
The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the division, lead recruitment efforts, and ensure career mentoring for division faculty and fellows. The division has over inpatient consults and approximately 2, outpatient visits each year. It is currently comprised of 5 physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, dieticians, social workers, medical assistants, genetic counselors, and administrative personnel. The division offers treatment, genetic counseling, and follow-up to families affected by any of the disorders ascertained on newborn screening, and leads multiple specialty clinical programs including cardiogenomics (in partnership with Keck SOM), disorders of bone growth, craniofacial, and inborn errors of metabolism. CHLA is a regional leader in delivering gene and cell-based therapies and continues to expand efforts to enable genomics to inform care across a lifespan. In addition to a tradition of broad genetic care for children from neonates to adolescents, CHLA has concentrations in fetal-maternal medicine, neurogenetics, cardiogenetics, oncogenetics, ophthogenetics, skeletal disorders and management of storage disorders. Our personalized care program (PCARE) integrates genomic medicine into all aspects of pediatric medicine and our Center for Personalized Medicine offers state-of-the-art cytogenomic and molecular genetic testing for patients with genetic disorders and cancer.
