Job Title: Chief Veterinarian

Job Summary:

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly qualified Chief Veterinarian to lead our Veterinary Public Health Program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising veterinary, administrative, and technical staff, as well as select trainees. Your expertise in veterinary medicine, public health administration, and epidemiology will be essential in developing and implementing programs to prevent and control animal infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage veterinary staff, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff.
  • Develop and implement programs to prevent and control animal infectious diseases, including zoonotic diseases.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure effective public health programs.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to veterinarians and other staff members.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources for the Veterinary Public Health Program.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) years of veterinary medical experience, with two (2) years in the appropriate specialty.
  • California State License to practice veterinary medicine.
  • Master's degree in Preventive Veterinary Medicine or a related field.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising veterinary staff.
  • Experience in designing and leading public health projects related to the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases and/or other infectious diseases.
  • Experience working in a large public health organization on evidence-based programs and policy development that protect humans and animals from the transmission of infectious diseases.
  • Experience in writing or reviewing public health-related publications, reports, manuscripts, abstracts, or research protocols.
