The Counseling Clinician will provide culturally competent clinical services including triage assessments, intake evaluations, diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, crisis intervention, brief individual and couples counseling as well as group counseling. The clinician will assist students requiring long-term or specialized care in connecting with campus and off-campus resources as well as provide psychiatric referrals. The Counseling Clinician will design and lead advanced training seminars for staff and trainees. If licensed as a psychologist, the Counseling Clinician will have the opportunity to be a primary supervisor for pre-doctoral psychology interns.

The Counseling Clinician will join a strong, hard-working, creative, spirited, dedicated, collaborative, supportive, and positive team of multidisciplinary mental health care providers. As a staff, we value humor, connection, mutual respect, and creating real, meaningful relationships with our colleagues. Self-care is built into the practice model at UMLCS. There is a maximum of five scheduled clinical hours per day, dedicated time for documentation, reserved time for lunch, a clear expectation that no one overworks, and no on-call duties. Moreover, we have regularly scheduled meetings (typically 2x/month or more) as a staff solely focused on collaborative efforts to improve justice, equity, diversity and inclusion as colleagues, supervisors, clinicians, individuals and as part of the greater university system and community.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Master’s degree in clinical social work, counseling, psychology or a closely related field and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience Knowledge of best practices in crisis intervention, clinical assessment, risk assessment, and suicide prevention Commitment to and demonstrated ability to provide multiculturally competent clinical services to a diverse student population Experience in working with developmental issues common to the 18-25 year old college/university student population

Preferred Qualifications:

Current license to practice in relevant clinical/counseling or social work field in the U.S Doctorate degree in counseling or psychology Experience working or training in a college or university counseling center Bilingual with experience providing mental health services in language(s) in addition to English

Candidates who have been licensed to practice independently for 4+ years may be hired as a Senior Counseling Clinician (Grade P19).
