Families in Transition Program Assistant

ROLE AND PURPOSE:
GRANT FUNDED - The role of the Families in Transition (FIT) Program Assistant is to assist in the identification, referral, and welcome of students and families meeting criteria for Families in Transition based on compliance with the McKinney-Vento Education Act.The position is a part-time temporary with a flexible schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Students with a minimum of two years of college completion in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field Individuals with a degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related fieldExperience:
Experience working with homeless youth and families (preferred) Experience in community networking and referrals (preferred)MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Attend training on McKinney-Vento Education Act Conduct interviews and assessments of families who indicate they are experiencing homelessness upon registration via phone and/or in person.Coordinate with SOS staff to refer families to an appropriate staff memberInput data for reporting purposesSTUDENT MANAGEMENT
Determine the level of assistance needed for students/families to ensure enrollment is immediate and students begin classes as soon as possible. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS Make appropriate referrals for families after a needs assessment is complete.Deliver electronic welcome packets to students and families upon enrollment into (FIT) Program.MISCELLANEOUS
Performs other duties as may be assigned by Department CoordinatorBasic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and ExcelGood oral and written communication skillsAbility to organize, manage time and prioritize dutiesAbility to work well with peers, the public, parents, and studentsWORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard testing equipment; standard office equipment, including computers and peripherals. Posture: Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension. Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more). Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and infectious diseases; may require districtwide travel. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure .Part-Time/Temporary employees will be paid at the minimum hourly rate for the full-time equivalent position's pay range. Variations to this standard because of market availability of applicants for a particular position may vary with Human Resources advance review and approval.
