POSITION SUMMARY:

The Model Shop Designer role is a technical position requiring years of diverse experience. The Designers works closely with their manger, Manufacturing Engineers, Process Engineers, and Equipment Specialists to create innovative design solutions for custom equipment, fixtures, assembly aids, and gauges that range from simple hand tools to complex semi-automated machinery. The Designer role requires proficiencies in 3D modeling CAD software (SolidWork, Inventor), creating documentation to support our quality systems (Assemblies and component prints) using various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Designers must have the ability to design for manufacturability, have experience with servos, sensors, motors, actuators, design analysis, material property selection, understand test and inspection methods, as well as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Designers work in a team environment and coordinate and plan their own projects in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

  • Design/Development of medical products and product improvements
  • Creation and maintenance of 3D CAD models, assemblies, and prints
  • Compliance to the AtriCure Quality System and company policies
  • Performing engineering analyses such as:
  • Mechanism design and analysis
  • Part fit and tolerance analysis
  • Materials selection
  • Design for manufacturability
  • Collaborate with suppliers in the design and procurement of fixtures and equipment
  • Supporting manufacturing validation
  • Seeking individuals that are self-motivated, detail oriented, the ability to work independently and in a team environment both as a supporting role and lead role of the project.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AS degree in Mechanical Design, Engineering Drafting, or equivalent
  • Basic understanding of mechanics and dynamics
  • Demonstrated creativity and proficiency in design of complex mechanisms and assemblies
  • Has experience/knowledge in GD&T practices, and experience using CAD software such as Solid Works, Inventor, etc.
  • 5 years of experience in advanced modeling and document creation
  • Proficiency in advanced GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Proficiency in material selection and associated manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of general prototyping and manufacturing technologies, including:
  • 3D printing
  • Injection molding processes
  • Low to medium volume manufacturing processes
  • Strong computer/data entry, report writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving/trouble shooting experience
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications and drawings
  • Ability to travel 10%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field of study
  • 5 years of experience in advanced modeling and document creation using Solidworks CAD
  • Advanced knowledge in materials selection
  • Advanced knowledge in GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Experience in design of complex medical device assemblies
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers in the design and procurement of development components
  • Experience in performing stress analyses with finite element analysis tools
  • Expertise in general prototyping manufacturing technologies
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator in document creation
  • Experience with inspection/testing and data analysis
  • Human Factors and Industrial Design experience
