Aquatics - ASL Swim Lesson Assistant

DescriptionManhattan Youth is seeking an ASL Swim Lesson Assistant to join our Aquatics team starting September 2024. No experience teaching swim lessons is required, though candidates must have knowledge of ASL (American Sign Language) and a desire to learn and work with children in the pool during swim classes. This position will work directly alongside our team of Swim Instructors to help provide swim instruction to students in K-5th grade. Our teaching philosophy follows a child-centered approach, fostering joy and love for swimming. 

Candidates must be punctual, reliable, personable, and have a strong desire to work with children and families.
Please indicate your Fall availability when applying. We are specifically looking for candidates available 1-2 days per week during after-school hours, though additional hours may be available.  

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a positive and energetic attitude and exhibit passion for working with children and swimming
  • Adjust lessons as needed to address individual needs
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized pool environment
  • Wear appropriate attire
  • Attend in-service training sessions and staff meetings
  • Perform other job-related duties as required

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of ASL (American Sign Language)
  • Ability to form positive, supportive relationships with children
  • Enthusiastic attitude and team-player mindset
  • Must be open to a collaborative environment and daily feedback from our leadership team
  • Commitment to Manhattan Youth’s mission and a strong desire to work with children and families
  • Must love swimming The ideal candidate will have some experience working with children in aquatics, after-school, or camp settings, and desire to learn. We will provide training
