Wolfspeed’s Materials Business is seeking an experienced, high potential, resourceful, hands-on, problem solving Qualification and Process Engineer II with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical challenges as well as meet goals for new equipment qualification and production. The ideal candidate for this position will thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and work constructively with a cross-functional team of engineers and technicians. The person in this role will be responsible for qualifying and monitoring new and established operations systems, integrating equipment with enterprise solutions from IT, and launching equipment at the brand new mega-site in Siler City, as well as quantifying raw material impact and analyzing and improving processes with respect to quality, yield, and cost of SiC substrate production.

This posting is for a position that will directly support equipment launch and operations at the John Palmour Manufacturing Center for Silicon Carbide, our expansion site in Siler City, NC. The person in this role will train at our Durham, NC headquarters initially before moving over to the new site.

Responsible for owning a variety of engineering duties related to the validation of new systems and equipment, planning and design of new products, improvement of manufacturing methods and initiating changes for cost effectiveness, speed, and throughput.Establishing and improving procedures and qualification plans for bringing new processes online in an exciting, new state-of-the-art facility.Owns investigation, troubleshooting, and improvement of systems and equipment impact on safety, quality, and cost of SiC substrate production processes.Defines control parameters, develops and maintains monitoring systems to rapidly detect and act upon process variations and report data to the wider Manufacturing audienceDefines and refines methods to increase process repeatability and control to achieve higher yields, lower costs, higher flexibility, lower variation, and a safe work environmentApplies good engineering practices to achieve continuous improvement.Provides data analysis and understanding of the SiC manufacturing using databases and data analysisInitiates, manages, and participates in projects to improve wafer quality and yield to exceed customer expectations.Works with R&D team to define, qualify, and transition processes from research through production.Defines, trains, qualifies, and leads process changes with salaried and hourly staff to ensure repeatability, reproducibility, and control.Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Materials Science.Strong organizational and planning abilities, ability to think independently, excellent attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving skillsWilling to work in non-cleanroom type environment.Excellent MS Office skills and experience in programming and systems design/improvementHigh energy, self-motivated attitude with strong communication skills and ability to interface effectively with coworkers of different backgrounds at every level of the company.Front-end Semiconductor processing experience (Examples: wafering, polishing, grinding)Familiarity with JMP, Tableau, or similar software packages.At least two years of full time Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment troubleshooting equipment, material, or process impact on product quality and yield.Working knowledge of AutoCad or similar software.Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and demonstrated success in complete process ownership within a 24x7 manufacturing environment.Installation and Start-up Qualification, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing experience.Excellent English language verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills.Statistical process control (SPC) experience in a manufacturing environment.Excellent overall computer and analytical skills.
