Position Overview:

Cree is seeking a Process Engineer to enhance our Wafer Operations Process Engineering team at our advanced silicon carbide manufacturing facility. In this role, you will spearhead continuous improvement initiatives within the Global Materials organization, focusing on yield enhancement, cycle time reduction, and cost efficiency. You will leverage data analytics to drive decisions and manage multiple projects aimed at improving overall equipment and process effectiveness.

This position will support operations at our manufacturing center, with initial training conducted at our headquarters before transitioning to the new site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support for Surface Preparation within Wafer Operations.
  • Utilize semiconductor metrology equipment and processes for measuring film thickness, defectivity, surface roughness, doping concentration, and metallic contamination.
  • Build and maintain a metrology engineering team, including gauge R&R and systems implementation.
  • Oversee new tool qualifications and support equipment automation and integration.
  • Make data-driven decisions based on comprehensive data analysis.
  • Monitor SPC charts and respond to trends and abnormal processing events.
  • Mentor and train process technicians.
  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures for wafer disposition and equipment recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Material Science, Physics, or Chemistry preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within semiconductor high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, or metrology engineering roles.
  • Familiarity with applied statistics (SPC/DOE) and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, A3, and DMAIC.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take ownership of tasks and projects.
  • Willingness to work in both cleanroom and non-cleanroom environments.
  • Experience with automated material handling systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Preferred Skills:

  • Self-motivated with project management experience.
  • Broad semiconductor experience across multiple process modules.
  • Programming skills in SQL, JMP, MS Access, or similar analysis software.
  • Ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and sound engineering judgment.
  • Capability to lead a team in managing multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong drive for timely results and a sense of competitive urgency.
  • Experience with VB.NET programming and SQL.

This role may involve additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
