Manager, Distributive Pharmacy

Allen Hospital - Waterloo, IA

Full-time

Responsible for assisting in the distributive medication operation of the organization; ensuring compliance with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Laws and all other regulatory services. Responsible for ensuring a distributive medication process that is a timely, safe, and fiscally sensible. The distributive process shall include the procurement, storage, dispensing and disposition of pharmaceutical agents used in the organization and is not limited to the inpatient pharmacy department. Responsible for the in-servicing and competency of the staff involved with the distributive functions as well as completing follow up analysis to demonstrate performance. Participates in the department's long-term planning revenue/expense analysis, operational and capital budgeting, 340B operations, and human resource management activities.

Responsibilities

Patient Care

    • Ensure distributive medication process is safe, timely, and fiscally sensible
    • Involved in procurement, storage, dispensing and disposition of pharmaceutical agents used in the organization, not limited to inpatient pharmacy department
    • Actively participated in budgetary forecasting with Regional Director of Pharmacy Services and Senior Leadership
    • Assist and coordinate with the Regional Director of Pharmacy Services to integrate the department functions with overall functioning of the organization to improve services and patient care

Relationship Management

    • Maintain and align relationships across the department recognizing UPH policies and practices as standard
    • Responsible for overseeing appropriate training and in-servicing for staff involved with the distributive functions
    • Ensure staff maintain required competencies and licenses in accordance with organization, Iowa Board of Pharmacy and all other regulatory services
    • Monitor and perform ongoing assessment of department distributive activities and take appropriate action to improve the quality and sure efficient and effective operation
    • Collaborate with outside vendors to ensure a safe, efficient, and sustainable medication process
    • Serve as a resource to team members throughout department and organization

Regulatory Compliance

    • Maintain competency and awareness of current rules and regulations from Iowa Board of Pharmacy and all other regulatory services
    • Ensures pharmacy compliance with above rules and regulations not limited to Inpatient Pharmacy Department
    • Communicate regulatory rules and regulations to staff

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

    • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
    • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
    • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
    • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
    • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
    • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
  • RPh Degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in related field
  • Current licensure with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacist
  • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
