High Stack Gordon, one of Florida's oldest personal injury law firm, is seeking to grow our Melbourne, Florida office.
Unlike many firms, we do not employ separate pre-litigation and litigation departments. Instead, our attorneys actively handle all stages of a case: meeting clients on Day 1, engaging in negotiations, beginning and prosecuting litigation, performing legal research, analysis, and writing, and handling depositions, hearings, mediation, and jury trials. Additionally, we strive to ensure that our clients never feel like just another case number. Maintaining continuous and positive client contact during this difficult time of their lives is vital, as the life blood of the firm is future referrals from prior clients who felt seen and heard during their representation.
Finally, we pride ourselves on providing an environment where all attorneys can continue to learn and grow. High Stack is not a paper pushing firm where the senior attorneys have not recently tried cases. You will work collaboratively with experienced trial counsel, while at the same time, not being pitted against your fellow associates in a cold calculus of profit dollars and cents. Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various issues related to litigation cases
- Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
- Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
- Represent clients in court hearings, mediation, trials, and other legal proceedings
- Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution methods
- Provide legal advice and guidance to clients regarding their rights and obligations
- Collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals to develop case strategies
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Florida
- Strong knowledge of legal research methods and resources, such as LexisNexis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear and concise advice
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- A willingness to learn from senior attorneys to meet our client needs and grow our client base
- Prior experience in litigation, civil or otherwise, is a plus
- Prior appellate practice is a plus
- Prior federal practice is a plus
