) The Pharmacy Resident will develop competence in practicing within a hospital based pharmacy department. The resident will provide information, principally therapeutic in nature, on drug related matters to all hospital staff members requesting information or to any outside inquiries. The resident must have advanced knowledge of pharmacotherapy and effective written and oral communication skills are critical. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provides information on therapeutic use of drugs to hospital personnel and also to outside inquiries. 2. Performs literature search and analysis of drug-related topics. 3. Review requests for formulary addition or deletion for presentation at Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting. 4. Teaches and precepts clinical clerkship students. 5. Participates in the Drug Utilization Review process and prepares analytical reports based on results of the DUR. 6. Trains/orients new pharmacy staff to the Drug Information Center standards of practice. 7. Participates in the development and distribution of the monthly P& T Committee newsletter to all clinical staff. 8. Reviews and participates in the development of drug research protocols and contributes to clinical research. 9. Responsible for contributing to the pool of pharmacy literature by publishing in peer reviewed journals or presenting at national meetings or symposia. 10. Responsible for delivering several presentations or continuing education programs to pharmacy staff, nursing and medical staffs. 11. Develops and completes a Pharmacy Resident research project prior to the end of the Residency. Results are to be presented at a national or regional pharmacy meeting. 12. Assume responsibility for after hours on-call service to provide drug information. QUALIFICATIONS 1.Graduate of Doctor of Pharmacy program and licensed or eligible for licensure

within 60 days from the start of the residency

in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 2.Upon department orientation and annually thereafter, must complete: Safety training ‘ Safe handling of chemotherapeutic agents Competency assessments in the area of: ‘ Age-specific pharmacotherapy ‘ Process-specific skills ‘ Clinical skills ‘ Population-specific pharmacotherapy SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1.Must have advanced knowledge of pharmacotherapy, as well as ability to locate, research, and interpret pharmacotherapy literature. 2.Must have the ability to integrate evidence-based medicine into decision making and/or policy development. 3.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to accurately and effectively provide information on therapeutic use of drugs to hospital personnel. 4.Must have ability to make decisions rapidly and accurately. 5.The individual in this position must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.In addition, they must possess the ability to assess patient data relative to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures. 6.Must have ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work. WORKING CONDITIONS Works under constant time deadlines.Occasionally exposed to possible carcinogens, mutagenic, and sensitizing medications.
