Summary:

Assists eye care providers in the care of patients through triage needs including following medication refill protocols and communicating clinical recommendations from providers to patients and care team associates.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the indirect supervision of eye care provider, assists with performing patient care. Demonstrate proficiency in performing ophthalmic core competencies.
  • Assists with prescription refill process under the direction of provider.
  • Performs documentation, patient education and enters clear and thorough documentation.
  • Communicates with Eye Center care team associates to provide in the moment decisions regarding patient scheduling and patient needs centered on patient safety.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
  • Excellent customer service attributes, including difficult conversations with patients
  • Understanding triage for multiple sub-specialty, including safely managing urgent triage

Requirements:
  • Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years sponsored on the job ophthalmic training, or ophthalmic internship.Preferred:5 years of related experience. Advanced knowledge of ophthalmology triage.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire.
