Overview:
ABOUT THE POSITION

Communications Specialist

Under general supervision, assists with the development and implementation of regional communication programs to elevate awareness of VHB services and capabilities, and enhance relations with the public, clients, industry, stockholders, and employees. Contributes to the planning, preparation, and distribution of communications materials and information utilizing a variety of media and interactive technologies to elevate VHB’s brand and prominence in our markets, geographies, and across our offices. May also coordinate publicity activities (e.g., scheduling, planning, and on-site support of appearances, conferences, and special events) that support VHB prominence building.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Participates in strategic communications planning discussions and development across six markets and 13 offices throughout the region.

Drafts written content for internal and external communications materials (e.g., social media, corporate website, internal newsletters, press releases, email campaigns, digital brochures).

Interviews technical team members and subject matter experts to glean information for communications materials.

Supports earned media efforts through media research, development and dissemination of press materials, and targeted media outreach (email, phone and in person).

Researches and identifies visibility and relationship-building opportunities (e.g., conferences and industry events), working closely with technical and marketing team members to identify and implement meaningful engagement opportunities, such as presentations, speaking opportunities, and sponsorships.

Drafts and/or reviews award submittals and presentation abstracts aimed at securing meaningful visibility opportunities for VHB people and projects.

Drafts, reviews, and edits messages to make certain that they are clear, thorough, on-brand, and seek to preserve VHB’s image.

Plans, coordinates, and promotes external publicity events and activities, as well as internal events (e.g., webinars, Lunch & Learns).

Researches targeted audiences and suggests ways of tailoring messages and maximizing engagement.

Collects measurement data and develops reports on the performance of specific communications or campaigns.

Tracks assignment activity and progress using project management software.

Maintains VHB’s brand and voice standards across all communications.

Provides quality checks for visibility materials, editing written materials for clarity, brand/goal alignment, and adherence to VHB style guidelines.

Provides occasional support to Corporate Social Media Specialist, including coordination and review of posts for VHB Brand channels and link sharing.

Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.

Travels to VHB’s regional offices as needed to facilitate in-person discussions, collaboration, and relationship building.

Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

2-4 years of experience supporting marketing communications.

BA in Marketing, English, Communications, Journalism, or related

Skills & Knowledge

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to write for various platforms (i.e., print, web, social media).

Ability to translate complex concepts into lay terms.

Ability to work independently and concurrently on multiple projects to meet deadlines.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated commitment to quality.

AEC industry experience a plus.

Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.

Team oriented with ability to collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.

Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.

Demonstrated ability to move projects forward.

Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.

Work Environment

Requires ability to work in a busy office environment with significant computer use.

Requires ability to travel amongst VHB offices.
