Job Title: Lead Media Editor

Reports To: Director of Media, Managing Editor and COO

 Job Description:

The Lead Media Editor contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by overseeing the editorial process for our media department. This lead will oversee 1 to 2 media editor interns and volunteers.  The Lead Media Editor will delegate tasks to interns/volunteers within the department, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise. They will provide guidance and support to interns/volunteers, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles. The Lead Media Editor will actively coach interns/volunteers, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the department. All lead editors are a part of the editorial desk that is overseen by the Managing Editor. This lead is responsible for ensuring content created in the media department is written in a clear and concise manner, represents our brand voice and is grammatically and stylistically accurate. This lead will oversee the reviewing and editing of content and captions for the various teams within the media department including, but not limited to the Podcast, Historical Accuracy and Research, Script/Creative Writing, Journalism and Video Production teams.

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. The duration of this internship can be as short as a semester or as long as a year or more and can be extended. Preferably, this leader will commit to 6 months.

Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the media editorial process at ONC.

Delegate tasks to interns and volunteers based on their strengths and expertise.

Oversee reviewing and revising content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax.

Communicate with various teams to ensure that content and copy are created and/or edited in a timely manner.

Effectively communicate with other ONC team members (Slack, Zoom etc.).
