The Senior Director / Head of Credit Risk Model Development position reports to the Executive Director of Modeling & Analytics and leads the organization responsible for development of the Bank’s Credit Loss Forecasting and other related Models for both wholesale and retail loss forecasting. This team is responsible for the development of the Bank’s CECL and Stress Testing Credit Loss Forecasting model suites and other related model suites including development and maintenance of the models, the model technical documentation, ongoing model performance monitoring.
The Senior Director works with executive leadership to establish modeling best practices within this team, establish current and long-term model development priorities, lead day to day development and support activities and to ensure alignment with Bank policies established by the 2nd line Model Risk Management function, mathematical rigor, adherence to all applicable regulatory guidance and industry best practices and aligned with business needs. Lastly, this leader will manage a large team of quantitative model developers and development managers distributed across multiple locations including resource planning, team skills development, and administrative planning.
The Senior Director leads Bank responses to audit, model risk management and regulatory examinations and for all Credit Risk Modeling Activities related to the Models supporting the Bank’s CECL and Credit Risk Stress Testing Programs and coordinates these activities with the Executive Director of Modeling & Analytics and the heads of the ACL and Stress Testing Programs. Demonstrated experience interacting with examiners is a must. This includes defense of model development choices, model development priorities and model management practices.
Responsibilities:
Strategy – in partnership with senior/executive leadership, define and set strategies to lead the planning and execution of the Bank’s Credit Risk Modeling programs. This includes interacting directly with regulatory leadership to plan and deliver updates/strategy to Management and Board of Directors Risk Committees and to the Fed/FDIC.
Determines appropriate staffing for assigned areas bases on the size, scope, risks, and regulatory environment. Makes appropriate changes to program policies, procedures, and efficiencies to meet objectives. Manages the performance, training, and evaluation of assigned staff. Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development.
Lead tactical execution of the Credit Risk and Loss Forecasting Model Development and support function including establishing model development, redevelopment, and recalibration priorities to meet Bank goals and regulatory expectation for key processes such as Credit Risk Stress Testing (CCAR) and Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL).
Design and implementation – develop conceptual designs of model execution platform. Design credit loss for stress testing reporting, narrative connectivity between MRID, Scenario, Loss Forecasting Models and Loss Forecast Results narrative to senior business, credit, and treasury leadership.
Reporting and forecasting – provide reporting and economic forecast for Credit Risk Stress Testing and Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL).
Management/Leadership – Provide SME guidance to the Model development team on stress testing modeling based on regulatory expectations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of Risk Analytics experience.
OR
High School Diploma or GED and 16 years of Risk Analytics experience.
Additional Requirements:
Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Hard Sciences, or other Quantitative discipline.
A minimum of 12 years of Model Development/Risk Analytics Experience.
Knowledge of financial risk modeling as well as spreadsheets and databases.
Extensive demonstrated knowledge of model building techniques, industry best practices & regulatory expectations (SR 11-7, Supervisory Expectations and Range of Current Practices).
Strong understanding of regulatory expectations for Capital Planning and Stress Testing, CECL (CCAR, SR1519, SR 11-7, etc.).
Strong knowledge of Credit Risk principles which inform credit loss forecasting
Significant experience with vendor statistical software packages such as Python, SAS, MatLab,
Management skills.
Prioritization skills.
Strong communication skills – interpersonal.
Organization skills.
Detail oriented.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in a Quantitative discipline.
