Job Overview:
The Plant Engineer will lead Plant in developing processes to more efficiently produce food products. This role will be required to have strong end to end food manufacturing process background. The success of this role will be measured through improved performance in Food Safety, Quality, and productivity. This role will own target setting and target adjustments of KPIs including Direct Labor, Yield, Throughput, and Pounds per Direct Labor Hour. Target setting will be data based through using tools such as RedZone and Tableau. Skill sets such as Lean, 6-Sigma, Continuous Improvement, TQM, and Change Management will be key to the success of this role. This role will work closely with the Plant Director to set up teams to drive improved performance with a target of 2 productivity projects per quarter. The role includes significant time on the Plant Floor. This role will also partner with Engineering to support OEM Design Capacity and work area layout for ease of production, cleaning, and maintenance. Will require 50% travel.

Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility for site Industrial Engineering Program, Standard Operation Procedures, and In-process KPI’s. The Industrial Engineer develops, implements, and measures the effectiveness of Operations employees and equipment to reduce variations and improve process and results.

The Industrial Engineer must leverage “Red Zone” to enhance automation and data collection while also enabling best practice replication and Continuous Improvement Opportunities

Supports a cultural mindset of discipline, rigor and structure to support the Operational Excellence journey.

Supports a culture with our programs to ensure our hourly workforce is engaging in improving their work, the processes, our safety, Quality, and Cost

Mentor and ensure that all personnel are familiar with operating processes and procedures, as well as meeting or exceeding HACCP and SQF requirements.

Ensuring an Autonomous Culture in the four pillars of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

Ensures all facilities are leveraging existing management tools i.e. Red Zone, WMS, ERP, eMaint, etc., to enhance automation and data collection, while also enabling best practice replication and Continuous Improvement Opportunities

Apply knowledge of process optimization and root cause analyses to facility regulatory requirements as needed. To include OSHA and EPA/DNR.  OSHA experience covering worker safety in a food processing environment, and process evaluation to assist in addressing critical permitted environmental processes such as air, water, hazardous wastes

Must be able to demonstrate/apply Lean tools, statistical analysis, TQM principles, value stream mapping, push/pull strategies, statistical process control, monitor for nonconformance trends and deviations, KPIs, and RCA

Support the Capital program with leads and justification for productivity improvement and ensure follow up and validation of any savings claims are conducted. Subsequently, ensure the plants incorporate savings into future year budgets.

Qualifications:
What we need from you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Manufacturing engineering, and/or related field required.
• Process improvement certification (Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt) from a recognized agency with formal project application is a plus.
• 3-5 years' engineering experience

• Food Manufacturing experience required.
• Project management, cost analysis, knowledgeable in ISO, USDA and food customer regulated environments.
• Strong mathematical, analytical and conceptual skills balanced by ability to apply common sense.
• Proven ability to leverage the capabilities and insights of individuals with diverse styles, abilities and motivations to achieve strong results.
• Ability to remain flexible and adjust promptly and effectively during times of change.
• Ability to guide teams to collectively create actionable solutions.
• Strong negotiation, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of necessary administrative duties to maintain and organize records, reports, or other information.
• Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma Methodology.
• Knowledge of quality principles, theories and practices.
• Skilled in presenting information or ideas concisely, accurately, and clearly verbally and in writing.
• Skilled in analyzing and documenting simple and complex business processes.
• Skilled in communication with a focus on listening and influencing skills.
• Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and simply to all parties.
• Ability to remain flexible and adjust promptly and effectively during times of change.
• Ability to anticipate business emerging needs.
