Financial Aid Specialist:Provides administrative and database support for financial aid transactions.

 

The salary range for this full-time position is $21.48 to $32.22 per hour.

Tuition-FT employees, their spouse & dependents are eligible for coverage of full Grayson College tuition amount.  

Responsibilities:
25% Awards federal, state and institutional financial aid funds, pulls reports from internal and external databases, creates custom reports, resolves discrepancies and ensures the integrity of the data.

20% Reviews student financial aid applications and determines eligibility based on federal and state regulations, using judgment and interpretive thinking skills.

15% Reconciles all Pell and Direct Loan fund data with federal databases on a monthly and yearly basis in conjunction with the Business Office.

15% Develops procedures and queries for data analysis for the department as well as other outside federal and state agencies. Develops and maintains user guides, policy and procedure manuals for the Financial Aid office relating to the use of department software. Creates and/or updates Crystal reports and integrates with student database.

10% Performs routine functions of the Office of Financial Aid including answering the telephone, composing and drafting communication pieces, answers student inquiries and researches and resolves student account issues.

10% Generates and maintains all statistical reporting, provides training for employees as needed and provides technical support for the Financial Aid Office.

 5% Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:  (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program is required.

Experience:  Six months to two years of similar or related experience.

Interpersonal Skills:  Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contact take the form of service to the public (students, visitors, or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

Other Skills: Must have organizational and time management skills. Must be self-motivated to learn in order to understand both federal and state programs. Effectively use organizational and planning skills with particular attention to detail. Demonstrate advanced proficiency using standard Microsoft Office software applications and database systems. One year of experience with Title IV Financial Aid. Demonstrated experience with Crystal reporting and SSRS reporting.

Physical Requirements:  The work is typically sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to do the work.

Work environment:  Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical office.
