Overview:
The Software Testing & Quality Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of uniform testing programs across KFB’s systems.  This role will lead and direct multiple program and project test teams to ensure testing and quality assurance best practices are created and adopted to support KFB’s project portfolio.  Additional responsibilities include providing leadership and strategy development within the quality assurance function to continuously grow our quality assurance competencies at KFB.  Broad experience in testing methodologies such as automation, manual, regression and performance testing practices are a must, and the role will require a reliance on experience and judgement to plan, manage and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.     

Responsibilities:
In conjunction with the manager, provide quality assurance thought leadership to continuously improve upon KFB’s testing competencies.

Create and manage a comprehensive test plan for large programs/projects.

Create, document, implement and monitor best practices of testing methodologies at KFB in conjunction with the manager.

Create and execute automated test scripts using best practices to ensure automation coverage across applications.

Evaluate results of test cases and provide regular progress reports.

Interact with other business and technical teams to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications.

Advocate and promote a strong culture for testing and outstanding software quality.

Mentor other quality assurance team members as well as others involved in testing initiatives on testing techniques, methodologies, and best practices.

Collaborate with others on establishing a process for continuous integration.

Identify functional problems and suggest resolutions.

Maintain awareness of quality assurance industry trends and work to introduce the relevant trends into KFB’s practices.   

Prepare data sets to test logic, error handling and system workflows, externally driving the data into scripts for reusability and maintainability.

Provide test coverage analysis based on automation results.

Utilize, maintain, update existing Visual Basic-based Automation Test Framework.

Develop and add automated functional and regression tests in existing test framework.

Function in short 2-4-week sprint cycles.

Convert manual test preparation into automated test preparation.

Investigate failed automation tests and report issues in bug tracking system (Quality Center) as appropriate.

Build, maintain and grow test automation infrastructure.

Define and lead performance test implementation.

Participate in product and feature design reviews with developers.

Create home-grown tools and scripts to facilitate and support ad-hoc testing.

Regular, predictable attendance as employee must physically be in the office.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Physical demands:  Normal vision/hearing (with or without correction); Sitting; Stress of working overtime as required.

Mental demands:  Prolonged concentration; Analytical reasoning; Stress of meeting deadlines.

Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.

Equipment:  Personal computer.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. 

7+ years of testing full lifecycle experience including both distributed and mainframe environments, encompassing both functional and non-functional testing.  Mainframe experience preferred.

Certification in test processes is preferred.

5 years of hands-on experience in automation testing using Selenium, Cucumber, and Java.

Experience with Microsoft VBScript.

Experience with QA automation, QA processes, working in Agile environment.

Successful history of implementing automated functional and regression-based test frameworks.

Good understanding of Object-Oriented design and implementation using Java.

Strong understanding of automated testing for web-based API such as Rest and web services.

Experience with Agile methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD).

Soft skills — diplomacy, essential in maintaining a relationship with developers, strong communication skills in both technical (developers) and non-technical (customers, management) environments.

Good judgment — to assess high-risk areas to determine which areas to focus efforts on when time is limited.

Problem-solving skills and proactive thought processes necessary to detect missing elements, an important factor for inspections and reviews.

Insurance industry experience and experience with the Guidewire system is a plus.

Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to interface with various business units to gain insight into functionality and usability.

Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to meet target dates established with others.
