Research Scientist III (Chemist III)Location: Atlanta, GADuration: Direct HireClearance: Willing to obtain CDC Public TrustSalary Range: 150k - 160kThe above salary range represents the range expected for the position; however, final salary offers are based on a number of factors such as the position's responsibilities; the candidate's experience, education, and skills; location; travel required; and current market conditions. -This program requires US Citizenship.ResponsibilitiesSelected candidates will conduct laboratory analyses to measure environmental or organic chemicals, chemical or radiologic threats, metals, toxins, nutrients, or protein, lipid, and other types of biomarkers in biological samples collected from various studies using various detection methods involving advanced analytical instrumentation such as clinical chemistry analyzers and LC- MS/MS. They may also perform laboratory-specific quality control procedures for reference measurements. Design and execute all phases of various projects including sample preparation (extractions, enrichments/affinity capture, digestions), method development and qualification for a variety of platforms. Efficiently identify irregularities and problems with analytic results, define the source of the problem, and effectively resolve it. Apply expertise in biological sample handling/processing, instrument operation, maintenance, and data analysis Train and supervise junior laboratory staff on new methods and protocols Apply analytical methods to studies supported by DLS while maintaining compliance of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) standards, policies and regulations Conduct data analysis, evaluation, and interpretation using complex software Apply quality assurance and control procedures for reporting and sharing study results Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions to communicate findings effectively. QualificationsBS degree in chemistry, physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering with at least 10 years of experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory.OrMS degree in chemistry, physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering with at least six years of experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory.OrPhD degree in chemistry, physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering with at least two years of experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory. Expertise in chemical and analytical laboratory work required. Expertise in analytic chemistry using mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, solid phase microextraction, handling/processing of biologic samples, statistical analysis, data review and management. State-of-the art knowledge of the principles of mass spectrometry (MS and MS/MS), chromatography, and ionization methodologies for large and small organic molecules. Proven experience with operation, calibration, and maintenance of MS instruments and interpretation of data. Experience supervising and mentoring junior scientists Strong communication skills, experience in preparing oral and written presentations and reports. Excellent data analysis skills and detail-oriented approach to quality, safety, and compliance Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Clearance.
