Our Plumbers play a vital role in maintaining safe, functional, and efficient learning environments for students and staff across the district. This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems in schools and support facilities—ensuring all work meets local codes, safety standards, and operational requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: Three (3) years of related plumbing experience
  • Licenses:
  • Valid Journeyman Plumber's License issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (must be in possession when operating an AISD vehicle)
  • Other Requirements:
  • Ability to travel throughout the district
  • May be required to work "on call" hours and occasional overtime

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair water, drainage, sprinkler, gas, and heating systems throughout the district
  • Assemble, install, and pressure test pipes, fittings, and fixtures according to specifications and codes
  • Identify and recommend water-saving opportunities and sustainability improvements
  • Diagnose plumbing issues and perform repairs on fixtures, water heaters, and appliances
  • Respond to emergency plumbing calls as needed
  • Conduct yearly inspections of gas lines and maintain compliance with safety standards
  • Maintain accurate work orders, time, and material records
  • Collaborate with building leaders and district supervisors to complete projects efficiently
  • Maintain district-owned tools and ensure all equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Promote and practice sustainability through energy and water conservation and waste reduction

Requirements

  • This position requires a thorough working knowledge of plumbing, and the tools and equipment used for the job. Incumbent must be able to layout plumbing from a drawing or sketch. Incumbent must be able to read and interpret blueprints, piping diagrams, and installation schematics. Incumbent must have knowledge of chalking, leading, threading, and cutting.
  • Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities. This position is responsible for the general maintenance of all plumbing installations.
