Position Description:

The Research Technician I in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics will be responsible for supporting projects within the Rife Magalis Lab by performing specialized tasks including genomic profiling assays, preparing sequencing libraries, cell culture, and handling/processing of zebrafish. Additional duties will include supporting lab members with ongoing lab tasks and general laboratory maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for genomic profiling assays such as nucleic acid extraction, sample QC, library preparations, and sequencing across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for the culture of cells and viral particles.
  • Responsible for care, injection, and staining of zebrafish.
  • Operate and maintain miscellaneous lab instrumentation.
  • Support fellow lab members and collaborators in their research.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies for the lab and Onbase verifications.
  • Keep detailed records and inventory in eLab.
  • Assist in general daily laboratory operations.
  • In collaboration with Principal Investigator, will establish new, and modify existing, standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Repetitive manual pipetting maybe be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, or related field, and one or more years of relevant experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience in PCR, RT-PCR, nucleic acid extraction, biosample processing, cell culture, and database management.
  • This role works in a dynamic environment that requires interactions with various types of technology and software, thus candidates are expected to readily adopt new technology as incorporated into the lab.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
