  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications and Development teams on outreach strategies and content development for key demographics and donors; and
  • Contribute to the continued growth of one of the nation's leaders in high-quality heart and lung care.

The successful candidates will be responsible for clinical, academic, and administrative activities of the respective transplant programs and therefore they must have a deep knowledge of clinical practice; a strong commitment to training and career development in clinical research and clinical care; and demonstrated leadership and administrative ability in a complex clinical enterprise.

The Surgical Directors must bring vision to the task of drafting the program's future, coupled with an ability to communicate in a fashion that inspires others to follow. These two leaders will be consensus builders, while also capable of serving as agents for change. The incoming Directors will be responsible for partnering across the Comprehensive Transplant Institute and Cardiovascular Institute to promote a collegial work environment that enhances clinical growth and academic development while advancing Position Specification 8 research activities consistent with the growth of clinical and investigative programs that increase the profile of these programs locally and nationally.

They will demonstrate the leadership which fosters a collective and collaborative culture within the heart and lung transplant programs and beyond, bringing together the multidisciplinary people and programs with a shared vision and purpose, and thereby enhancing faculty engagement and development. The Surgical Directors will also work collaboratively across UAB Medicine to ensure that the program is a leader in the rapidly evolving, multidisciplinary approaches to end stage organ disease.

The Surgical Directors must demonstrate a passion for mentoring and development of faculty and fellows, including interpersonal skills that will assure successful relationship building with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. These individuals will be charged with fostering an environment of integrity, trust, and transparency, recognizing the importance of physician and staff well-being, and promoting institutional stewardship and the organizational values and academic purposes of UAB Medicine.

UAB Medicine and the Comprehensive Transplant Institute offer potential candidates a uniquely supportive practice environment with an emphasis on quality patient care, research, teaching, individual career development, and collaboration among faculty members.
