Job Description

Faculty Cardiopulmonary Radiologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)

The Department of Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine is recruiting for a full or part time faculty position at the level of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor, commensurate with experience, to join the department with an anticipated start date of July 2026.

About the Section

With the section under the new leadership of Dr. Elliott Gozansky and the department under the new leadership of Dr. Mahmud Mossa-Basha, we are seeking to transform the traditional cardiothoracic work environment. The successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent clinical care. There are opportunities within the section for coverage of diagnostic chest imaging, cardiovascular imaging, and/or interventional chest procedures. All faculty members participate in multidisciplinary conferences, which offer an opportunity to develop academic collaborations and build a reputation with our colleagues. Teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents and fellows is a large part of our Section's mission and it is required from all our faculty members.

Scholarly or creative work is a fundamental part of our academic life. Depending on the expertise and on the level of interest in performing research, the successful candidate may join our clinician-teacher pathway or physician-scientist pathway. We expect faculty members in the clinician-teacher pathway to be advocates of our trainees and to develop and/or participate in education-related activities beyond daily read-out sessions, services and committees in our department, school of medicine, university, and/or in our major radiology societies. Faculty members in the physician-scientist pathway are expected to collaborate within and across departments and institutions working on multidisciplinary teams. The goal is to become independent investigators in their area of interest, which may span from bench to implementation research.

THERE IS A COLLABORATIVE AND COLLEGIAL WORK ENVIRONMENT WITHIN THE TEAM THAT FOCUSES ON COMPASSIONATE CARE, SUPPORT, FLEXIBILITY, GROUP LEARNING, AND ENGAGEMENT.
