About the Role

We're seeking an experienced
Urban Planning Strategist
to join our growing network of collaborative partners on city and corridor-scale projects across the U.S. The ideal candidate has experience working in downtowns, mixed-use districts, or neighborhood revitalization initiatives, and understands how planning, economic development, and cultural storytelling intersect to shape vibrant places.

This is a contract-based position that will involve collaborating with our team on master plans, strategic action plans, and community visioning projects.

What You'll Do

  • Lead or support land-use, mobility, and economic corridor planning analysis for urban and regional projects
  • Translate technical data into implementable strategies and design recommendations
  • Develop frameworks for growth, investment, and equitable public-realm activation
  • Collaborate with BLVD's brand, design, and policy leads to connect planning data to narrative strategy
  • Participate in stakeholder sessions, engagement events, and public presentations
  • Advise on policy, zoning, and implementation frameworks that support long-term civic goals

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in urban planning, strategy, or community development
  • Proven experience with downtown, corridor, or neighborhood-scale planning initiatives through portfolio or written case studies
  • Knowledge of land use, economic development, and mobility systems
  • Strong written and visual communication skills; comfortable collaborating in multidisciplinary teams
  • Based in the U.S. (Mid-Atlantic region preferred)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with public-sector RFPs or federally funded community projects
  • Familiarity with state or federal economic development programs (DRI, EDA, CDBG, etc.)
  • Background in creative placemaking or civic storytelling

Compensation & Terms

  • Contract-based compensation varies by project scope and deliverables
  • Remote work with occasional travel for site visits or workshops (expenses covered)
  • Flexible project scheduling based on availability and capacity
