Travel: Routinely requires local travel and occasional out-of-state travel, which may require overnight stays.

Compensation: $91,000 to $110,000 annually

Role Overview

The SBA Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for developing referral networks to generate SBA 7(a) and 504 business loans to small and medium-sized businesses. The SBA BDO will actively prospect and network within local markets to identify and establish new client relationships for Bank19. This role will focus on building and maintaining a strong referral network, working closely with internal and external centers of influence, and commercial referral sources. For this role, candidates must have strong knowledge of SBA 7(a) and 504 loan products to support small business growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Originate and close a minimum of $12 million in SBA loans each calendar year.
  • Utilize networking and referrals to generate business leads and identify potential small business owner borrowers.
  • Provide exceptional service to internal and external customers in accordance with Bank19 values of collaboration and professionalism.
  • Negotiate and structure loan proposals that are a win/win for Bank19 and the small business, complete initial underwriting and prepare a background narrative outlining the request before submitting to underwriting with a recommendation for approval.
  • Evaluate the risk of individual transactions and pursue loans with an appropriate risk profile with applicants of high integrity and use creativity to develop solutions for small businesses.
  • Manage loans through all stages, from origination to closing, ensuring thorough execution and client satisfaction.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures and the bank's credit policy.
  • Contribute to the success of the SBA department by sharing in all department responsibilities as required or assigned.
  • Collaborate with leadership, underwriters, loan closers, and loan servicers to ensure a smooth loan workflow.
  • Maintain relationships with clients to develop future lending and relationship opportunities including attending community networking events, as required.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional work experience may be considered.
  • Proven record of funding $10 Million+ in SBA 7a loans annually.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a similar lending environment or financial institution.
  • Experience originating owner-occupied commercial real estate, construction opportunities, partner buyouts, and business acquisitions.
  • Advanced knowledge of SBA loan products and SOPs.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build centers of influence.
  • Successful experience developing new client relationships across a variety of industries through calling efforts and proprietary referral networks.
  • Proven performer as a commercial loan officer or BDO in a high performing commercial bank environment required; familiarity with the metro market and region is required.

Physical Requirements

  • This role requires remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods (e.g., at a desk, working on a computer).
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, keyboard, mouse, phone).
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk, use hands to feel, and use objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Requires clear articulation and the ability to listen and comprehend information accurately.
  • Requires consistent visual focus and mental concentration to review complex documentation and analyze data.
  • Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Long hours and weekend work are frequently required.
