Compensation & Benefits: $56,485 to 62,000 annually

Role Overview

The Senior Teller plays a key role in the daily operation of the bank branch. This position is responsible for processing complex customer transactions, maintaining branch cash controls, and providing exceptional service that aligns with the bank's commitment to building strong community relationships. The Senior Teller also serves as a mentor and guide for new Teller staff, ensuring adherence to all operational policies and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Process a high volume of complex and routine customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, check cashing, and transfers.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues and inquiries professionally, providing information on bank products and services.
  • Actively identify customer needs and refer appropriate products (e.g., new accounts, loans, Treasury Management services) to the Relationship Managers.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all bank products, services, and associated fees.
  • Manage the branch vault and maintain established cash levels, including ordering and shipping currency, balancing the vault, and verifying incoming/outgoing cash shipments.
  • Assume responsibility for opening and closing the branch and vault, adhering to all dual-control procedures.

  • Perform periodic cash audits for all Tellers and ensure all balancing procedures are followed and discrepancies are resolved promptly.

  • Ensure strict compliance with all bank policies, regulatory requirements (BSA, AML, etc.), and security procedures.

  • Complete end-of-day branch settlement and reporting tasks accurately.
  • Act as a leader, setting an example for professionalism, accuracy, and customer service.
  • Assist the Branch Manager in training and mentoring new Tellers on operational procedures, customer service standards, and compliance.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to Tellers for handling challenging transactions or complex customer situations.
  • Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cash handling and balancing with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong working knowledge of banking regulations, including BSA/AML requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and core banking systems.

Experience & Education

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of previous experience as a Teller in a commercial banking or financial institution environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while operating a computer, managing the teller line, and interacting with customers. This position involves a mix of both.
  • The ability to walk to and from the teller station, vault, safe deposit box area, and other parts of the branch.
  • The ability to use hands and fingers to handle, count, and sort currency and coins with accuracy and speed, operate a computer keyboard, and use other office equipment.
  • The capacity to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. This is primarily required for moving coin bags, currency boxes, and supplies.
  • The ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, or reach to access files, supplies, and the vault contents.
  • The ability to verbally communicate effectively with customers and co-workers, and the ability to hear and understand conversation in a standard business environment, including over the phone.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus, primarily for reading documents, computer screens, and accurately counting cash.
