Overview

Sandbox Politics is an app that pairs people together who don't see eye to eye on politics to help them find out what they're missing. Every week, Sandboxers take a survey that consists of 5 assertions on a divisive political topic, and respond with their level of agreement. The assertions represent what one side thinks about the issue at hand. Each day, users react to a different assertion and discuss it with their conversation partner in the app.

Sandbox has a Progressive Content Editor and a Conservative Content Editor to maintain ideological balance. We are looking for an intern to help the Progressive Content Editor by find assertions that represent progressive political opinions for the weekly surveys. Intern will report to Progressive Content Editor and work alongside the Conservative Editor to create balanced content.

Responsibilities

  • Curate content for an app that surveys Americans on divisive political topics and pairs them up to have political conversations with people they disagree with
  • Find assertions from a variety of sources (op-eds, podcasts, political websites, political speeches, etc.) that are representative of the Progressive point of view on a given political topic
  • Suggest new political topics for discussion in the app
  • Work with the Conservative content editor to choose 5 assertions that span the upcoming week's topic and represent people's points of view
  • Find stock images that represent the assertions
  • Stay up to date with political news in order to know what political topics are most salient

Requirements

  • Applicants must be a current student (or recent graduate) studying Political Science, US History, or similar subject
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A strong editorial eye and the ability to quickly recognize a strong, well-phrased, succinct, and easily understood line of argumentation
  • Open-minded and comfortable in an ideologically diverse workplace
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Based in Chicago and able to commute to the Loop on Mondays and Wednesdays

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
