The Rink Monitor is responsible for ensuring safety of patrons and participants at the Summit Ice rink at Lea McKeighan North, with an emphasis on public skating sessions. Light maintenance of ice and facility also required.
Job Scope:
No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors public skate sessions events both on and off ice, as well as hockey or other special events or activities as assigned.
- Enforces rules and regulations applicable to patrons utilizing the facility.
- Assists in the general maintenance and upkeep of ice rink and surrounding facility, including sweeping, cleaning, picking up trash, and ensuring safe environment.
- Knows emergency procedures and assists with patron incidents and emergencies, notifying appropriate supervisor and assisting as directed; administers basic first aid as required.
- Maintains safety by following LSPR guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age; and,
- Must be a proficient ice skater; and,
- Must be able to work in a cold environment for extended period of time.
- Basic First Aid and CPR/AED preferred.

- Ability to analyze community needs, problem solve and implement solutions, and relate to the needs of all age groups.
- Ability to establish good working relationship with public, subordinates and supervisors. Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants.
- Ability to understand, analyze and implement ideas and concepts.
- Skills in communications and providing exceptional patron service.
- Works with Assistant Superintendent of Recreation Services, Superintendent of Recreation and Assistant Facility Manager to gain overall guidance and direction in the conduct of duties.
- Interacts with departmental personnel to provide quality services and to satisfy operational needs.
- Interacts with patrons and LSPR employees to foster open communication and positive attitude.
Physical Classification:
- Medium: Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to raise or lower an object from one level to another, transport an object, exert force upon an object so that it moves away from or toward the force, or otherwise move objects.
