Medicolegal Investigator I
position in Honolulu. As a
Medicolegal Investigator I
, you will play a vital role in investigating deaths that are accidental, unexplained, or unattended, helping to uncover the facts and provide answers to families and the community. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to learn and grow in a hands-on investigative environment.
What You Will Do
- Learn and assist with medicolegal death investigations under experienced investigators.
- Help gather evidence by attending scenes, photographing, and interviewing witnesses.
- Assist in identifying deceased individuals and recovering their personal belongings.
- Review medical records and prepare clear reports on your findings.
Special Working Conditions:
- Exposure to challenging scenes including sights and odors related to death investigations.
- Work may involve irregular hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
Career Progression
The expectation for any Medicolegal Investigator I in the Department of the Medical Examiner is to learn and progress upward to higher Medicolegal Investigator levels. A Medicolegal Investigator may progress up the career ladder and/or qualify for other higher level positions with satisfactory work experience and demonstration of applicable knowledge and skills.

Education Requirement
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in forensic science, biological science, nursing, allied health, criminal justice, or a directly related field.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree in forensic science, biological science, nursing, allied health, criminal justice, or a directly related field.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
Verification Requirement: In order to be given credit for your education, clearly list your education credentials on your application. As part of the hiring process, you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to satisfy this education qualification requirement.
