Delinquent Tax
Collection Assistant
I
to assist with the collection of governmental and non-governmental delinquent real property taxes and other related fees.

What You Will Do

  • Collect overdue taxes and fees by reviewing finances, contacting taxpayers, arranging payments, and following laws to maximize city revenue.
  • Locate delinquent taxpayers in the field, review their financial documents, and negotiate payment solutions.
  • Recommend accounts for write-off or foreclosure by issuing legal notices, filing liens, researching unlocatable or dissolved accounts, and identifying unsellable properties.
  • Review and adjust tax records, calculate total owed including penalties/interest, assess ability to pay, set up fair payment plans, protect the City's liens, and proceed with collection or foreclosure if agreements aren't met.
  • Assist with foreclosure sales by researching records, locating assets, preparing items for auction, posting/removing foreclosure signs, and reviewing claims for sale proceeds.
  • Refer difficult cases involving foreclosure, bankruptcy, or complex situations to higher-level collection assistants.
  • Consult with the City's lawyers for guidance on legal matters, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Special Work Requirement

  • Work schedule is from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Education Requirement
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

Experience Requirement
Three (3) years of public contact experience, two (2) of which shall have been in tax collection or similar activities which shall have involved the application and interpretation of laws, rules, regulations and procedures in collecting delinquent accounts or taxes or in determining tax liability.

Substitution
An Associate degree in Business or a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field may substitute for the general public contact experience. However, there is no substitution for the two years of specialized experience in tax collection or similar activities.

The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
